I-CODA's special guest, Jonathan Rosen, will lead a workshop on the devotional form of kirtan music. All are welcome - no musical experience is necessary.
We will go deep into the different divine characters and their particular fragrances – Guru, Shiva, Durga, Ganesh, Kali, Lakshmi, Vishnu/Krishna/Rama, Muruga, Hanuman, etc. Using a handout of different songs, we’ll start working with individuals in the group to be able to lead simple bhajans. We’ll practice the rhythmic structure and style of bhajan singing – how the music arises from the silence and dissolves back into it.
Those who play guitar enough to follow simple chords, and those who play drums, flutes, keyboards, etc., will be invited to participate in beginning to form an I-CODA kirtan team. But mostly, we will focus on singing together – listening, connecting and tuning to the energetic fragrance of each bhajan and character – and channeling those energies to create the highest open-hearted receptivity for satsangs and spiritual processes.
